As a full time working lawyer-mom my life has not lended itself to much creative free time. BUT, after doing this a few years I realized I always have some tips as to how to manage it all. 9 Workout Necessities for Moms on the Go

I just posted a few daysago about how it is important that we take the time out of our busy days for some exercise.  Since I have been at this regular exercise thing for a while now, I thought I would share some of my favorite go-to items that make everything more enjoyable, comfortable and efficient.

1.   SHOES

Quality kicks are step one essential; you are exercising afterall – you need a good pair of shoes. The gym classes I attend most are a mix of cross training and running. However, it would be pretty annoying to swap shoes mid-workout, so I stick with running shoes.  I have been extremely loyal to Asics Kyano Gel since my pre-kid distance running days.  And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  I find these shoes to provide optimal cushion and support but also come in lots of fun colors too.   

2.   WORKOUT PANTS

I don’t know about you, but I really only can workout in pants or capris.  Skorts ride up when I run and shorts give my neighbors a show when I stretch.  Pants are just the way to go for me.  And ladies, the quality of the pant matters!  I used to balk at spending a few bucks on pants, but frankly once I tried more expensive pants I never turned back.  They fit like a glove and, frankly, made me look better!  I LOVE these high waisted Capri’s– the high waist reduces that roll-over effect and makes me feel so much more tight and pulled together.  For colder weather months, and outdoor running, these are a staple.  I love the big pockets on the side that easily fit my phone. They are insulated enough that I wore them running in a Thanksgiving Day race this year when the temperature was 10 degrees.  Needless to say, they kept my booty warm! If you are looking for a cheaper option, these mid-sized capri offer plenty of coverage (i.e. you will not be showing your underwear) but are at a discount from the pants above.  I often find myself wearing these as my every day all day staple when I work from home.

3.   BRA

We need to keep the ladies in place.  And let’s be kind to our ladies, if you have sports bras that were around during your high school sports days, time to toss them and invest in some quality sports bras that keep your gals in place.  I have a fuller bust, so while I look for full support, I also try to have a little bit a sexiness.  I just love this medium coverage bra because the back adds a little pizzazz, but it still provides the support I need. For a lesser expensive option, but equally as cute and functional, I love the JoyLab line of bras.   They are incredibly affordable but offer super cute colors and designs.  

4.   WATER BOTTLE

You are sweating….so you need to stay hydrated!!  I prefer stainless steel water bottles because they stay colder longer and stay cleaner.  I also refuse to use water bottles with a straw or a sip cap.  Have you seen how gross those get overtime?  EW.  I just love the Mira bottles.  They have great colors.  But more importantly, they fit in the cup holders at the gym.  



5. FITNESS TRACKER

When I first got my Apple Watch 3 years ago, I said it was just a novelty item.  But now I cannot live without it.  I use it to track everything.  While the battery life is not ideal, it does not bother me that much as I do not like sleeping with any watches or jewelry – so it just is part of my routine to charge it with my phone on my bedside table. Fitness trackers really do help get you more motivated.

6. HEADPHONES

An essential for any gym experience is a good pair of headphones. Motivating music and quality headphones can totally make the difference between a good workout and a great workout. So, whether you’re a fan of tiny earbuds or love the larger, over-the-ear style headphones, be sure to throw your favorite pair into your bag before you head out of the door.  I am personally a fan of these wireless over the ear headphones.  Not only are they water resistant, but they do not hurt my ears or fall out during long runs or spin classes.  


7. DRY SHAMPOO

Don’t have the time or energy to shower after your workout? Trying to fit in a work out midday and need to rush back to your office?  We’ve all been there! By bringing along a bottle of your favorite dry shampoo, you can soak up excess oils and sweat from your strands, while adding volume and texture to your roots.

 

8. CLEANSING WIPES

Cleansing towelettes can be a lifesaver after the gym. From removing sweat and makeup to acting as an impromptu odor neutralizer (no judgment!), cleansing wipes are a must for any woman’s workout bag.

 

9. COMPACT MICROFIBER TOWEL

Sometimes gym towels don’t always get the job done. Always ensure that you have a clean, fresh towel after your workout by bringing your own from home. Many fitness and wellness companies make compact microfiber towelsthat are perfect for bringing with you on-the-go. Simply choose your favorite color and throw in your bag before your workout.
